Fire Safety team prepare to welcome businesses at Worthing event

Landlords, business managers and care providers are being invited to a specialist fire safety event next month to help ensure they’re compliant with legislation.

The two-day event, running from 9 – 10 November, will be held in the marquee at Steyne Gardens in Worthing.

The service’s Fire Safety Protection team will be joined by key partners to deliver four sessions on fire safety in care homes and specialised housing, businesses, as well as in flats and high-rise buildings.

Information on the four sessions can be found below:

The sessions are free to attend and can be booked via Eventbrite.

Businesses are also encouraged to come along to Steyne Gardens between 10am and 3pm on either day to meet the team, get advice on fire safety legislation and find out about our specialist fire safety training courses.

Crews from Worthing Fire Station and members of our Prevention team will also be on-hand to give wider safety advice – such as information on fire safety in the home and how to keep safe on the roads.

Area Manager for Protection, Garry Collins, said: “We’re really looking forward to meeting local business owners and helping to resolve any fire safety concerns they may have, in order to create a safer environment for everyone involved in business management and public safety.

“Fire safety in the workplace is a legal requirement for all employers, as they are liable for the safety of staff and site visitors. Therefore, we will be on hand to help with tasks, such as completing fire risks assessments, to ensure they’re fully understood by everyone responsible.

“Last year West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service attended 29 industrial building fires, and with more businesses returning to the workplace, ensuring premises are safe has never been more important. So please, pop along, meet the team and find out more.”
