Low Carbon Innovation Showcase

A Green Growth Platform event in partnership with Worthing & Adur Chamber of Commerce and Adur & Worthing Councils. Run by the Sustainable Business Network.

A free seminar for environmental sector businesses exploring the process of innovation and the journey towards bringing a new product or service to market. Hear from local business case studies, plus an expert speaker on R&D Tax Credits.

SaundersEnergyCase Study – Saunders Energy

Saunders Energy Ltd manufactures and deploys in-stream and tidal power turbines to enable clients to efficiently and reliably generate electricity and reduce their carbon footprint.

Following tests in the River Arun, West Sussex, they have brought their latest product, PowerFrame, to market.

Adrian Moss will share the company’s journey from initial idea to commercialisation. He’ll talk about challenges they have faced – finding funding, partners and testing sites – and explain how they plan to make their innovative, cost effective technology a mainstream renewable energy solution.

Case Study – Building Sustainability Ltd

In an environment of ever changing technology and regulation, energy management specialists Building Sustainability Ltd continuously innovate to maximise return on investment for their clients.

Director George Bartley will discuss how the company identify and new markets, the development of their range of software tools and consultancy services and the support and funding they have received as they have grown, including from the Green Growth Platform, which has facilitated George’s involvement in Profitnet and the delivery of a major Combined Heat and Power Knowledge Transfer Partnership with the University of Brighton.

Subject Expert – R&D Tax Credits

R&D Credits are an HRMC incentive allowing companies developing new products, processes or services to claim a cash payment or tax deduction of up to 33% of their total research and development spend.

Sarah Collins, Head of Research & Development at Rift Accounting, will explain how the scheme works and how it is not just for businesses with laboratories and white coats! In the building sector for example, certain expenditure on investigating new methods of construction can qualify and in the IT industry, spend on software development and improvement is often eligible.

Networking & More…

The event will also be a chance for networking and discussion with other local innovators and to hear from the Green Growth Platform about the variety of support on offer for innovating businesses including Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, Business Support and Innovation Vouchers.
