    Crowning Glory

To celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, Worthing Museum and Art Gallery is displaying a miniature replica of the queen’s coronation dress as part of an exhibition of regal textiles.

The original dress for the coronation was designed by Mr Norman Hartnell. The skilfully crafted model was hand-made in the 1950s by local doll collector Dicey Williams, part of a set showing the different robes of state worn for different stages of the coronation ceremony.

Dolls of Queen Victoria and memorabilia of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations are also on display in an exhibition which includes one of the hidden treasures of the costume collection, a rarely displayed Cape which research carried out by the curators at Worthing Museum and Kensington Palace has revealed was worn by Queen Victoria at the Garden party in Buckingham palace on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee.

Curator Gerry Connolly said “The doll maker has captured the exquisite detail of the sumptuous gowns and robes worn by two of this country’s longest reigning monarchs at various stages in their lives, including an outstanding replica of QE2’s coronation gown designed by famous Couturier Norman Hartnell.

The dolls are now on display in the permanent historic costume gallery. Worthing Museum and Art Gallery is open from 10am-5pm Tuesday to Saturday and general admission is free. For further information about visiting this exhibition please go to www.worthingmuseum.co.uk or call the museum reception on 01903 221448.

    Growing Places

The allocation of an additional £270 million of funding for the Growing Places Fund programme which was announced as part of the budget was good news for Coast to Capital's Growing Places Fund, which has been allocated an extra £7,674,599, increasing the overall Coast to Capital fund to £23,990,825.

Coast to Capital's Growing Places Investment Committee, with the help of consultants, Genecon LLP and CBRE are currently evaluating the initial proposals and, at the end of April, will recommend successful projects to the Board.

    Coast to Capital grows!

Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership is pleased to confirm that Epsom and Ewell Borough Council has joined the partnership.
In a letter (16 March 2012) to Chairman John Peel, Mark Prisk MP and The Rt Hon Greg Clark MP confirmed ministerial support for the inclusion of Lewes within the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership.

    Optimistic outlook for international trade!

Coast to Capital held its International Trade conference on Tuesday 20th March 2012 at the Arora Hotel, Crawley. Coast to Capital has ambitious goals to increase, significantly, the number of businesses which trade internationally and held this event for organisations that work to support businesses in trading overseas.

The conference was presented with initial findings from new research commissioned by Coast to Capital about the patterns of current international trade in the Coast to Capital area. Participants heard that findings from a recent survey of businesses in the area suggests that 10% of Coast to Capital businesses are active exporters and generate around £13.6bn - about 42% of the GVA for the Coast to Capital area.

The International Trade conference was attended by around 70 representatives of accountancy and legal firms, specialist service providers, banks, chambers of commerce, trade bodies, UKTI, universities, Gatwick Airport and local authorities.

70 Leaders and key representatives from business and business membership organisations, the public and voluntary sectors, were welcomed by Coast to Capital Chairman, John Peel, to the second meeting of Coast to Capital's Forum at the American Express Community Stadium in Brighton on Thursday 8th March 2012.

Board member, Steve Allen's presentation on Delivering Economic Growth outlined some of the ground breaking work that's being developed to drive forward the three current strands of activity: business growth through entrepreneurship; tackling areas and groups with low levels of enterprise and young people and enterprise.

    Broadband - Register your support!

Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership is asking businesses to help the push for better broadband by registering their need for improved broadband services.

Encouraging businesses to register their need for improved broadband services is just one way in which Coast to Capital continues to lobby for better broadband provision across its area. The more businesses that register their support for better, faster broadband, the more likely it is that broadband suppliers will invest in the Coast to Capital area.

Coast to Capital is a business led, public-private sector Local Enterprise Partnership. Five area partnerships make up the Coast to Capital area.
