Day Release Degree – growing your talent and your business!

The Day Release Degree from the University of Chichester is an exciting, innovative and flexible way for students to gain a full honours degree in Business Studies, whilst in work.

We are currently, successfully delivering the 2013-2017 Day Release Degree programme to a range of students from a wide spectrum of employers in the hospitality, travel, construction, engineering leisure, retail, marketing and social enterprise sectors. Several Worthing-based companies such as Classic Collection Holidays and Newview Homes are participating in this programme.
The University of Chichester is inviting existing employees who want to develop their potential by gaining a degree that is directly relevant to their work to contact us. We are also looking for highly motivated and talented students in their final year of college to consider this programme.
    What’s in it for Employers?
The Day Release Degree is the best opportunity for you and your organisation to recruit and develop your own existing talent in a way that is focussed on your organisation and organisational goals, whilst allowing your employee the opportunity to get a recognised qualification. It is aimed both at existing employees and new entrants.

    •    Attracting highly skilled, motivated people - offering a job within your organisation that allows a person to attend the Day Release Degree programme will help you to attract the high calibre recruits that can really help to drive your business forward.
    •    Direct business impact – your business will benefit directly from work-related projects focused on your business objectives and enables the students to make a real difference while they are learning.
    •    Increased loyalty - you gain loyalty from your employees as supporting development is widely proven to have a positive effect on staff motivation and retention.
    •    Innovation - your organisation benefits from innovation and impact as the student brings the latest research and approaches to the work related projects that they will be doing.
    •    Talent Management - grow your own employees who will become your high performers of the future.

    How does it work?
The University of Chichester identifies employers who want to be part of this innovative programme. Businesses want to partner with us because they can see the benefits of developing their existing staff members as well as attracting new entrants and the long term benefit that this can bring to the organisation.

    •    Students will study at the University of Chichester one day a week over three ten week terms for the first three years. The fourth year comprises primarily a tutor supported management project studied over two semesters i.e. September to May
    •    Study is a mix of generic business and skills based modules. The majority of assignments are work related projects agreed in advance with the employer. Subjects covered include, finance, management, marketing, HR and operations.
    •    Students are supported by both an academic tutor and a work based mentor.
    •    Employers typically fund 50% of the course fees with some participants getting access to student loans.

What’s in it for the Day Release Degree student?
You may be an existing employee and want to develop your potential within the company to enhance your career and move to more senior roles. The Day Release Degree is perfect for developing and progressing your existing career and because you will be working on practical projects you make a very direct impact on your business.
Alternatively, you may have completed your BTEC or your A Levels and want to get a degree, but may not want to go to university full time in which case the Day Release Degree is for you.  It is an excellent opportunity to achieve a recognised degree, whilst gaining valuable work experience.
As the degree is done while you are in work, there is every chance that you will have much reduced student debt from the fees. You can still apply for student loans.

Here are some comments from our current employer partners and students:
"It's about investing in the young today to give you the managers of tomorrow. We are really pleased with our student, Anna-Marie; she has exceeded expectations and is already making an impact. We definitely plan to recruit two more for this year's programme" Nick Munday, Managing director, Classic Collection Holidays Ltd.

“Working directly with a corporation allows you to get vital work experience for future career progression”. Jay – Trainee, Butlins Leisure

“With the coursework being based around the company’s own core principles and internal training policies I feel I am getting the best education from both sides”. Simon – Manager, Bombardier Engineering

How do I find out more?

    WORTHING WORLD RECORD BREAKING ATTEMPT

Worthing’s award-winning beauty salon and skin clinic, Euphoric, is celebrating its 10th year in business in 2013 and to mark the event, will be hosting a world record breaking attempt for the greatest number of people painting their nails at the same time. This will take place on Saturday 26th October at Worthing Pier and everyone is invited!

The current Guinness World Record is held by Taiwan with 1,156 people who took part in their event in 2011. Euphoric hopes to beat this and is looking for more than 1,200 to turn up on the day.

The attempt will be held in the afternoon and participants are asked to go to the main Pier entrance from 1.30-2.30pm latest. The attempt will take place at 2.45pm when everyone will paint their nails for at least five minutes or have five nails painted. Participants are asked to bring along their own nail polish but everyone will receive a certificate of participation along with a voucher for a free manicure or pedicure at Euphoric in the following six months as a thank you for joining in.

The Mayor of Worthing, Councillor Bob Smytherman, will be on hand to verify the authenticity of the event. There will be an entry charge of £1 per participant with every penny going to Breast Cancer Care (as this month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month) and Worthing’s own Guild Care, which looks after older people with dementia and Alzheimer’s, one of the Mayor’s Charities this year.

Zoe Clark, owner of Euphoric, said, “What bigger way to celebrate our 10th birthday year than attempting a world record?! Now all we need is for the residents of Worthing and beyond to get behind us and take part in this fun event and support two very worthwhile charities. After all, it’s something to tell the grandchildren in the future, isn’t it?!”

To take part in the event, email euphoricchallenge@gmail.com to confirm you’ll be there. There’s no age limit so it’s open to everyone.

Euphoric is based in South Farm Road, Worthing. Priding itself on offering the latest cutting edge treatments and products, the salon specialises in skin care from within as well as through topical products, and holds regular skin analysis events. Euphoric was the first in the area to offer many international brands, products and treatments, now being copied in other salons.

For information on Euphoric’s products and treatments, see www.euphoric-beauty.co.uk

Email secretary@billingshurstchamber.co.uk and book your place now!

The purpose of the BilliBusiness Lunch Club is to be a business referral forum rather than a “talking shop” gathering, and each month one member will be invited to give a presentation of their particular business lasting 5-10 minutes.

We ask that a fixed cost of £10 for the set lunch menu and one drink is payable on the day, with any profits being forwarded on to our chosen charity of the year; The Dame Vera Lynn Trust. Further drinks will be available at your own discretion although jugs of water will be provided on each table.

This is a great opportunity to meet and mix with other local business people in an informal and social setting, whilst building upon your contact list for local businesses.
To confirm your attendance, in order to advise the restaurant of numbers in advance, we would appreciate you contacting the Chamber's Secretary on
    07984 959281 or by emailing secretary@billingshurstchamber.co.uk

    MP congratulates local business

A business in Worthing has been recognised as a leading local business by being shortlisted in a Newspaper Society competition. The Local Business Accelerators competition is looking for the most promising small businesses in the country, with a national winner being announced in October.

MP for Worthing, Tim Loughton said, “I am delighted to see the success of Green Fish Recruitment. Small businesses play a vital role in our economy and in local communities. I very much hope that the Local Business Accelerators competition and the accomplishments of Green Fish Recruitment will help to inspire other people to start their own business in Worthing or to grow one they are running already.

“The competition is supported by Business in You, and I would like to remind other local businesses that the Business in You website (www.businessinyou.bis.gov.uk) contains a range of practical information and directions to other sources of help. Particularly when you are starting out in business, seeking out and acting on advice is key to success.”

Business Minister Michael Fallon said, “The Government is committed to helping small businesses get on and succeed so they can continue to contribute to the growth we need. We want businesses to take advantage of the wealth of information and support that is available to them through Business in You so they can take the necessary steps towards securing themselves a bright future. Through the LBA competition these successful local businesses will set a great example to their peers.”

The competition’s winner will receive a year's mentoring from Dragon’s Den star Deborah Meaden and other prizes including free advertising in their local newspaper, £10,000 from the Business Growth Fund, a year's membership of the CBI, business advice from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, broadband and a website from BT, and an iPad and a year’s access to software from Freeagent.
