Climate Change: Help Shape a More Resilient West Sussex

Following the driest July ever recorded across England and Wales, the importance of healthy natural systems has never been clearer. Longer periods of hot, dry weather, alongside an increasing risk of flooding and pressure on water resources, are already affecting the places we value. Sussex Bay are working with partners to help nature recover, strengthen coastal communities and build a thriving blue economy. Healthy rivers, wetlands, woodlands and seas are all connected, making collaboration across Sussex more important than ever.

They welcome the launch of West Sussex's new Climate Change consultation.

Developed jointly by West Sussex County Council and the district and borough councils through the West Sussex Joint Climate Change Board, the draft plans set out a shared vision for creating a greener, more resilient county where people and nature thrive together. The consultation explores how West Sussex can both reduce carbon emissions from transport, homes and businesses, while also preparing for the impacts of a changing climate, including more frequent heatwaves, increased flood risk and growing pressure on nature and water resources.

Proposed actions include improving the energy efficiency of buildings, supporting greener travel, encouraging community renewable energy projects and making greater use of sustainable drainage systems to help manage flood risk.

The consultation is an opportunity for everyone who visits, lives or works in West Sussex to help shape these plans. Your feedback will help identify the priorities that matter across the region.

The consultation is open until Sunday 27 September 2026.
