New Groundworker and Highways Maintenance Apprenticeships Launching at Brinsbury College
Businesses across Sussex are being encouraged to explore two new apprenticeship opportunities launching this autumn at Brinsbury College in Pulborough.
Part of the Chichester College Group, Brinsbury College is introducing both the Groundworker Level 2 Apprenticeship and the Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship, with programmes starting in October and November 2026 and delivered through a monthly block release model over 18 months.
The apprenticeships will be delivered through the new Brinsbury Civil Engineering Centre, a purpose-built training facility designed to provide hands-on, industry-standard education in groundworks, civil engineering and highways maintenance. The centre has been developed in collaboration with regional employers and replicates real working environments, including drainage systems, kerbing, structural concrete work and the operation of specialist machinery.
The Groundworker Apprenticeship equips learners with practical skills in drainage installation, concreting, road construction and hard landscaping, while the Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative Apprenticeship focuses on road repairs, reinstatement work, traffic management systems and the safe use of tools and plant machinery.
Chichester College Group is rated Ofsted Outstanding and says its apprenticeship pass rates are more than 16% above the national average. The college is inviting employers who have already identified a prospective apprentice, as well as businesses looking to develop new talent through apprenticeships, to get in touch with its dedicated apprenticeship team.
There is significant financial support available for employers. According to the college, from 1 August 2026, the Government will fund 100% of training and assessment costs for eligible apprentices aged 16 to 24, while additional grants may also be available to qualifying SMEs and employers recruiting younger apprentices.
