    British Marine Meet the Buyer event; buyers confirmed to date

    The British Marine Meet the Buyer event is back once again, taking place during the London Boat Show from 10th - 11th January 2017 at ExCel in London.

    The event provides a unique opportunity for International Buyers and UK Suppliers of marine products and services to network in one location saving on travel time, air fares and scheduling issues. Last year 17 international buyers had over 450 twenty minute meetings with over 50 suppliers over two days.

    Confirmed buyers include Baglietto, San Lorenzo and T.Mariotti from Italy, Palby Marine and Tuco Yacjt Vaerft from Denmark, Byggplast from Sweden, Marintek Deniz and Yeke Denizcilik from Turkey, Moreman from Russia, Pendennis Shipyard from the UK, Poly Sources Development and Beijing EV Culture from China and Plastimo from France. A number of well known brands are also waiting to be confirmed including Elan Yachting, Fincantieri, Portofino Yachts and Yacht Chandlers from the US.

    Take the leap and fly 10,000ft through the clouds

    Spring into action and join us on our Group Skydive on 11 March, 2017. Tandem skydives are the most popular type of skydive, no experience is necessary and all training is provided before you jump. You will jump with a qualified instructor who will do all the work for you, so you can enjoy an adrenaline rush like no other, flying 10,000ft through the clouds at 120 miles per hour!

    Spofforths Trading as Kreston Reeves from January 2017

    Teville Gate Developments 

    We continue to work closely with Worthing Borough Council to bring the site forward for development and we will undertake a consultation event in February 2017 when the public will get the chance to meet the design team, ask questions about the project and comment on the evolving designs for this important regeneration project.

    Following the public consultation event, it is anticipated that a planning application would be submitted in the Spring and for development to start later in the year subject to the grant of planning permission.

    We have undertaken extensive survey work over the last few months to explore ground conditions and the location of key services and utilities. We are keen not only to secure planning permission for this important site but also to have a viable scheme that will be built.

    The current proposals seek to maximise the site’s location close to the railway station and town centre and provide a high quality, residential led scheme with ground floor retail, commercial and leisure uses. Particular emphasis will be on creating enhanced public realm throughout the site and create an attractive pedestrian connection between the town centre and the station.

    Sort out your Outlook inbox:


    1. Shift and Delete on the keyboard permanently deletes the selected emails (bypassing the deleted items/trash folder).

    2. Empty your deleted items/trash folder. Right click on the deleted items or the trash folder and click on Empty Folder.



    3. Apply a flag to messages that will be dealt with at a later date. Just click on the flag symbol next to the message. 



    4. In the new year, find flagged messages easily by clicking on the Filter Email button and selecting Flagged.
     

     

    Prepare a list of tasks to be carried over into 2017:


    Try using Microsoft OneNote - you create notebooks with sections and pages. It's great for to do lists.



    Or, make use of the Task lists option in Outlook and set yourself reminders. You can even assign tasks to other people!


     

     

    Free up some space:


    Clear space on your computer by emptying the Recycle Bin. Right click on the Recycle Bin on your desktop, and click Empty Recycle Bin.

    New consultation for Shoreham Harbour Regeneration

    A public consultation is soon to begin on an updated plan for the Shoreham Harbour Regeneration project.

    Residents, local businesses and community groups are being encouraged to take part and discuss future opportunities for new housing and employment space in the harbour and surrounding areas. The plan also includes proposals and policies for adapting to climate change, upgraded flood defences, recreational and community facilities, sustainable travel and environmental improvements

    The 8 week consultation runs from 16th December to 10th February, and looks at the updates made to the project’s Joint Area Action Plan since a similar consultation in 2014. The plan acts as a guide to the regeneration of the harbour, over the next 15 - 20 years.

    The plan has been jointly prepared by Adur District Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and West Sussex County Council working closely with Shoreham Port Authority.

    Leader of Adur District Council, Cllr Neil Parkin, said:

    “It’s important that as the project progresses, we undertake public consultations to engage with residents and businesses to produce a shared vision for Shoreham Harbour’s regeneration. The plan covers a wide range of issues that those living in the area take very seriously; such as managing flood risk, enhancing the natural environment and eco-friendly methods of transport. Therefore it’s key that we can involve as many individual’s views as we can.”

    The plan has also been designed to complement the emerging Adur Local Plan (2016), and work alongside the adopted Brighton & Hove City Plan Part One (2016).

    Cllr Julie Cattell, Chair of Brighton & Hove City Council’s Planning Committee, said:

    “This consultation is a way to involve everyone in a very important discussion about Shoreham Harbour. We want to do our best to accommodate local opinions in the project and so it’s important that as many people as possible take part in the consultation so that their voices can be heard and their views taken into consideration.”

    Cllr Bob Lanzer, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at West Sussex County Council, added:

     "Shoreham Harbour plays an important role in the economy of the south east by supplying minerals for use in the construction industry.  We welcome views on our plan to safeguard wharves for mineral transportation, while also meeting our aspirations for regeneration of the area.”

    Coastal West Sussex Autumn Update


    Airport Expansion News
    It was disappointing news when Government announced that it still favours expansion at Heathrow over Gatwick.


    A strong argument has been put forward by many, including the CWS Partnership that a second runway at Gatwick is the right and truly deliverable option and that case will continue to be made.

    Work continues at a pace to deliver the Coastal STEMfest, a two month celebration of science that will culminate at the lively BigBang@Butlin's on the 14th March 2017.  This interactive festival aims to enthuse the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians.



    Delivered by STEMSussex, this is the 2nd Coastal STEMfest that is being supported by all the Coastal Local Authorities and other partners to be delivered in the area.

    Understanding Tourism
    Coastal West Sussex has commissioned a series of reports from Tourism South East which aims to understand the current tourism landscape and future opportunities for the whole of the area. 





    This includes accommodation, visitor attractions and recommendations for a cohesive marketing approach. 

    The final reports will be published at the end of 2016 and will be available on the CWS website

    The 2016/17 MHA Manufacturing & Engineering Report is now live!

    The 5th annual MHA Manufacturing & Engineering report has been released and draws Philippa Oldham speaking at the METALL event on the findings from a UK-wide survey which ran throughout the summer. The report analyses national and regional insight from over 560 businesses, of which 80 are from the South Coast, and identifies opportunities, concerns and future developments within the sector.

    Feedback from the report was discussed at our latest METALL event, held at South Lodge Hotel on 15th November with Philippa Oldham, Head of Manufacturing & Transport at IMechE, providing her expert commentary to a packed audience of local Manufacturing businesses. A Q&A followed the presentation with areas of discussion including the skills gap, implications of industry 4.0 and what the Government can do to support the sector.

    The report contains a national snapshot covering England, Wales and Scotland as well as regional insights. Expert commentary is also provided by Mike Mychajluk, Member of the Automotive Council Supply Chain Group, Chair of the ICAEW Manufacturing Special Interest Group and Supply Chain & External Engagement at Jaguar Land Rover Limited and from Professor Rajkumar Roy, Director of Manufacturing at Cranfield University.

    Launched post Brexit, the report reveals that optimism in the sector is still high and businesses continue to have a positive outlook for the coming year. Survey respondents were from a variety of sub-sectors within Manufacturing and Engineering including Aerospace, Biotechnology, Food and Drink, Metals, Oil and Gas, Pharmaceuticals, Renewables and Transport to name a few.

    Main findings:

    • Half of all respondents put skills shortages at the top of their agenda. Most MHA Manufacturing & Engineering Report 2016businesses’ want government to expand skills training for the future work-force in Secondary Schools, Higher and Further Education (FE) colleges.
    • 68% of respondents believe their main competitors are UK based and 32% said their main competitors are based within their own region of the UK.
    • 47% of respondents expect to increase their staff numbers in 2016 (an increase of 8% from last year), with 57% of companies intending to take on apprentices or trainees.
    • Of the respondents that anticipate their staff numbers will increase in the next 12 months, over half (59%) need to recruit production staff. However, 41% indicated that they have trouble recruiting skilled machinists/technicians.
    • 18% of businesses reported that recruiting appropriately skilled staff is the main barrier to growth over the next 12 months; this is a decrease of 10% from last year which is encouraging, although this may just be a reflection in the shift of concern towards the effects of Brexit.
    • Where recruitment is a barrier to growth, 31% of respondents favoured adopting lean manufacturing strategies and 23% favoured automation or further automation as a coping strategy. Shift working or flexible working patterns (25%) was also seen as a viable option.
    • When asked about the availability of skilled recruits, only 11% had a positive outlook compared with 49% having a negative outlook.

    The Manufacturing & Engineering report was compiled by the Manufacturing group at MHA, our national association of accountants and supported by Lloyds Commercial Banking.
